Back in the 1960’s Hunter S. Thomson wrote, “The girls stood in a group, wearing bright lipstick and the blank, wary expressions of half bright souls turned mean and nervous from too much bitter wisdom in too few years.” Now, half a century later and the fashion scene are looking back to bygone eras of rebellion and revolution. Or at least Jena.Theo is with its grungy yet brightly coloured and highly original AW13 collection.
And there they stood. Jena.Theo’s models, in their group in Somerset House’s Portico Rooms, lips painted in bright shades of orange, red and pink, dull nonchalant stares gazing out warily into the distance through side swept hair.
Described as ‘a collection that is never quite what it seems,’ the selection of oversized t-shirt dresses, daring hemlines and acid-trip prints were one moment lithe, delicate and refined, the next flippant, unruly and defiant. Screamingly bright colours popped on the catwalk, played off against melting golds and a recurring burnt out ruined floral motif.
Bringing edgy to a new level, the design duo are setting the trend-watchers tongues a wagging with talk of neon platforms as the footwear to die for this coming AW season. LOVE!
