True to form, Barrell’s latest collection is inspired by her travels, this time with a nod towards Berlin’s street art and punk scene and German expressionism. The pieces, which lean toward a futuristic and more urban feeling of masculine androgyny in the style and cut, also demonstrate her ability to play with diverse textures and colours.
Colours include concrete, cement, steel and black on black with accents of acid yellow and mauve, oiled greens, electric blue, and orange. Calfskin and supple mohair are teamed with strict, technical fabrics and signature silks.
Designing for the “cool, individual girl who knows what she likes and is urban, busy, curious and inspired,” Barrell’s AW13 collection is all about simpler silhouettes, less print, strong colour, tougher materials.
