Watching Mara Hoffman's show was like reliving the colour and feel of Northern Africa. That was the inspiration for her Fall 2014 collection. I could almost feel and hear the strong rhythmic beat prevalent in North African music as the models stomped down the catwalk.
The strapless silk jumpsuit (above) echoed the Egyptian pyramids, whereas the long cream, wool, braided fringed-coat reminded me of the long cream clothing of the Berbers and the infinite amounts of sand and heat of those countries! - although, as we were in freezing cold New York, this really did seem rather like a mirage to me.
The mirages came though in the form of the pyramid sequin gowns - as you do when you arrive from the desert into the little glittering palm-fringed oases that offer a cool and deserved respite from the blaze of a day of sun.
Hoffman is renown for her prints of which the colours and patterns were really splendid, echoing the landscapes, art and textiles of Northern Africa.
