Maticevski's catwalk show finished with roars and claps and me with goose pimples. It's just great when it happens - when you find a DESIGNER YOU LOVE and it's a discovery to you.
A bit of history - Maticevski is from Melbourne (family immigrated from Macedonia). He went to RMIT University, then on to work at Donna Karan New York and Cerruti in Paris for two seasons, returning to Melbourne in 1999 to start his own label. In 2002 he won Best Designer award at the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival, and in 2005 the Prix de Marie Claire -Best New Designer award. He's built an amazing array of private clients including Beyoncè, Kim Kardashian Abbie Cornish and Lisa Wilkinson - who are just a few.
THE ORCHID METAMORPHISIS - the name of TONI MATICEVSKI's SS15 collection is definitely a mixture of future and classics, and yes I can see his thought stream of an avant-garde explorer as imagined by the Dutch masters in the full skirted gowns fused with his use of sports luxe fabrics.
It really is hard to choose a favourite piece. They're all eye-poppingly different. Just as you thought there couldn't be another piece, shape and style, out came something completely new!
Whether it was in the colour - a romantic blush, a Courreges orange or a Darth Vader black, or the materials - futuristic prints and rich floral jacquards, or the style - intricate detailing, a-line silhouettes and voluminous skirts, the pieces were all pretty amazing, as you can see here.
I hope we are able to buy this collection in Europe soon!
Oh and to all those photographers in the pit, I am going to use a bit of that MATICEVSKI courage and attitude because I have never been part of a pack and YES, I will be taking pictures even if I have to stand on one toe, pushed up against a side and YES, I KNOW I am not Vogue. BUT, just one of these days...
