If you haven’t gone on your summer beach holiday yet, and you are starting to agonise over the perfect tans and perfectly coordinated summer looks flooding Instagram feeds and fashion magazines, it is time to stop worrying, all is most definitely not lost and you too can look like a summer beach Goddess by following a few simple guidelines.

Obviously, there are certain things that are so necessary that we think of them as almost a given, for example the pre-beach beauty basics: manicure, pedicure, waxing and threading.

Once these are done and out of the way, we get to the more serious question: What to pack? I personally fall into the less is more category, because at the end of the day, you are on holiday and should be focusing on enjoying and indulging, rather than ironing and dry cleaning.

So, to help with efficiency, first and foremost, you need to take into account the destination you are visiting. Will it be a classy five-star plus resort in Italy or the Indian Ocean, a private villa with friends and family or a boho joy ride on the back of a motorbike, in a camper van or with a tent.

I always pack in five categories – swimwear, footwear, headwear, cover-ups and accessories.

Pedro Palmas - SS17  - swimwear to wow in!

When it comes to swimwear, I always recommend bringing at least three different pieces – two that you can wear simultaneously while one is drying and the other is being worn, and a third piece that is purely to wow in! I always have that Pedro Palmas piece for sure.

For the classy resort, nothing beats a chic one-piece mono coloured number. For the private villa with friends, a ruffled top bikini which can be worn as part of an outfit later on, because sometimes those lunches can develop into dinner. For beach festivals and bikes, it's got be to a very loud graphic or floral bikini or trikini. A fun printed Hipertrifico trikini is a MUST.

For footwear, I always take three pairs with me, and one of them is always a waterproof Melissa jelly shoe, even if it's just to get me from the water to dry, that said Espadrilles always look gorgeous either flat or wedged. They usually only last the one season but they're a perfect five-star accompaniment. Sandals are great to wear with those pretty summer throw on dresses or denim skirts paired with a bikini top, and slides or slip-ons are all any traveller might need for the summer. The former are great for casual, fun activities and have made a major comeback this summer, and the latter are great for driving, walking around and everything else.

When it comes to headwear, a large ribboned chapeau definitely cuts a look, or throw on a turban for pool swimming. If you've got long hair a turban will also stop sun damage. Mines are made for me by Adereza tu cabeza or Miss Balanta. For those of you that hate anything on your head, but don't want the freckles or age spots on the face, a visor is a great option. Floppy straw hats are always a classic and if the rim is wide enough it will cover the back of your neck – a prime sunburn spot. I think new label Fineza have some fun hats and have an Americana appeal, which is a huge trend next season!

A bucket hat or a cap is my idea of a proper cover-up, perfect if you're out in the sun all day and perfect to fold into a pocket at night.Definitely got to be GUCCI

When it comes to the clothing category, it’s always a bit more complex. I personally love my trousers, so I always take a high waisted pair, with an elasticated or tie-up waist, in a non-crease natural material and I avoid white in case of staining. Khaki coloured trousers  like the TIBI ones always do it for me and look elegant over a swimsuit with wedged espadrilles for a smarter beachside look. Slip dresses in silk are easy to pack and hand wash. I sometimes take two or three in different materials, together with a denim, because with family and friends, there is no time to stress. Aurelia Gill does some pretty dresses.

Although pareos and kaftans are not really my thing, they do scream holidays, and make the perfect travel companion. Plus, when the sun goes down a pareo can double up as a shawl to keep the cooler air of your shoulders.

The accessories that I always take are two pairs of sunglasses, one black and one lighter glass. Fak by Fak and Embellished truth work all my looks. God forbid you sit on one pair and need to find a non-flattering pair locally.

Bolsitos de Arantxa

I also bring two bags, one for the beach, probably a Loca Playa and another sparkling one like los Bolsitos de Arantxa  for everything else. I wear all my jewellery when I travel and then just take off certain pieces to go with different outfits.
