While others drew inspiration from specific era’s, Antonio Marras dedicated his stunning FW14 show to a person, a star, his muse - Benedetta Barzini. Now age 71 Barzini was an Italian actress and model, and is now a teacher and a feminist activist.
Although the collection can be seen as one of Marras’ more practical, there was still plenty of playing with, and exploring volume, with highly patterned, texturized and colourful creations strutting down the runway.
Talking of colour; Marras’ colour palatte of pinks, nudes, dusty blues and crimsons, were all selected with Barzini herself in mind. Marras also choose the stylised tapestry prints, rose petal motifs and upholstery inspired looks based on his iconic muse.
Playing with roles and gender stereotypes, Marras with tailored grey masculine pintstripes encrusted with gold for a touch of Versailles, along with empire dresses with regal necklines worthy of Marie Antoinette. But perhaps the piece de la resistance was the spectacularly embellished coat which Barzini wore proudly on the catwalk to take a bow of honour.
