While the "Remember When" title of the Barre Noire Mercedes Benz Berlin Fashion Week show sounds a bit melodramatic, In reality designer, Timm Süßbrich wanted the audience to interpret it as a journey into the past, back to childhood or teenage years. Certainly the music on the catwalk, a mix of hip pop & 70's disco gave the flavour!
Süßbrich compared the collection with an old villa saying: “The paint is peeling and in some places the paper has been stripped down. It comes to layers. Layers and layers all form a whole, but each one is actually detached.” Certainly the sheaths of silver on the menswear had the desired effect. In fact the whole menswear side of the collection was stupendous. With a Pyjama style top & short (below) that was enviously delicious.
The collection plays on the brands signature feelings of coziness and simplicity, but this season the designer has used a combination of different materials to tell the story. Süßbrich has experimented – with great success – with a fabric interpretation of leaves, transparency in solid cloth, lattice laser cut lace and knit.
Using an organic and natural colour palette with accents in black, gray, yellow, green, copper brown and silver, Süßbrichs also keeps the prints down to a minimal, allowing the material, the fit and the cuts to express in a more pure form.
