I love to see a good designer show his collection on his home turf so I was delighted to attend the Spring Summer 2016 NYFW show of homegrown New York label Nicholas K. The two siblings behind the luxury brand did not disappoint with their voluminous collection of parachute-inspired pieces.
Models stomped down the catwalk draped in layers of lightweight nylon held together with utilitarian buckles and ropes. Later in the show this was replaced with other fabrics like suede, silk, denim and distressed leather.
The collection has an other-worldly almost alien feel to it, and although the pieces are floaty, baggy and futuristic, they ooze a certain fluidity with a fierce strength, turning their wearers into aeronautical warriors.
Keeping the palette simple the brother-sister duo opted for a predominant white, cream, bronze and gold combination. These were interspersed with burnt oranges and black combinations, often featuring a dip-dye effect on floor-length dresses and elongated ponchos. Stunning- stunning -stunning!!
This collection is for a woman, with the knowledge that her role in this world is changing without comprising her femininity.
