Celebrating 25 years on the fashion scene this year, Marco Marrero and Maria Diaz of renown Tenerife-based label Marco y María, have recently been reflecting on the extraordinary journey their work has taken them on, looking back at their triumphs and victories along the way.
The dynamic duo has risen from their humble beginnings in a design and dressmaking workshop in Puerto de la Cruz, to becoming an acclaimed wedding label, establishing a status as a firm mainstay on national catwalks and then – in 2000 – making it big on the international bridal wear scene at the Paris Show.
Their designs have two arms of their brand – Bridal collections and Party collections – and both have received critical acclaim internationally for their stand out looks using exclusive embossing with taffetas, tulles and silks always with a distinct vintage flavour.
And with 25 years behind them, the pair are excited about what’s to come in the future. I sat down with Marco and Maria to talk about their plans.
I have always between intrigued as with every brand that has two designers at the helm . If each one has a distinct role within the design process. Is there a specific role for each designer in Marco y Maria .
After so many years, we work as a pair, and when it comes to the design process we work in synergy and we choose the fabric together for our creations.
With 38 renown specialist bridal shops internationally stocking the brand and more in the pipe line the Marco y Maria is fully established, have you anything left on your wish list to achieve .
At the moment we are in the process of expanding our retail network. At this moment our dream is to consolidate our brand internationally whilst keeping our manufacturing and atelier in the Canarias.
