I was a fan of Thierry Mugler from very early on. I think it must have been the unique structure of his clothing –so different from the sea of designers that were beautifully ornate and feminine – that first got my attention. The Mugler signature look is a jacket style top with a masculine cut, andhe always highlights the waist and hips to create the perfect female body. I also admired the touch of cruelty in the style of Cruella de Ville in his pieces and my Mother was also a huge fan of his first boutique whichopened in Paris in 1978.The glorious spot was called Victoires, and was designed by Andree Putnam.
Recently I've become even more than passionate about this designer, whose wrap dresses are so flattering in the way that they sculpt the body. The collars, hems, sleeves, waist and hips are usually a straight cut on an angle, and if you look at the inside of the dress, you will see that the seams are actually an ingenious feat of mechanics!
