I have followed Antonio Burillo and Juan Carlos Fernández – the designers behind The 2nd Skin co - since I first saw them at Cibeles Fashion Week Madrid a couple of seasons back. I love the elegance and femininity they bring to their design work; and I’m not the only fan; in fact, their clothing has been worn by international stars such as Jennifer López, Jamie King, Erin Richards, Bella Thorme, Bar Paly and Jessica Biel.
Last season they introduced a prêt-á-porter collection, which they whole-sale, as well as retailing through their own site called 2nd LAB, with this comes a lovely collaboration on handbags with accessory designer Mar Flores .
The 2nd skin co is unusual in Spain in that they present four collections, two under their Atelier The 2nd skin co and two under their ready-to-wear label 2nd LAB.
Whilst in Madrid I had the chance to see their AW16/17 Atelier collection, 'Soul' , up close; and what a delight. The collection is a joyous reminiscence of the glamour of the 70's. A night in New York's Studio 54 where iconic models like Lauren Hutton and Bianca Jagger danced till dawn in a city that never stopped. This season is the first time the designers have used black it's a powerful statement in between the silk gazar and printed mikado fabrics of the collection.
In the collection the dresses steal the show by far, whether they are long with trains or extremely short with deep décoltés or very low cut backs. The bias cut reigns supreme hugging the silhouette like a whisper . Chiffon , tulle and beaded trims outline the figure and play with the silhouette.
My favourite a lime yellow silk dress fit for the most glamourous red carpet affair.
This season The 2nd Skin Co trousers are high-waisted and lightly flaired ; or in their most glittery Studio 54 version - a jumpsuit .
Accessories for the collection come in the form of stoles which are made in collaboration with Aurora Maroto and shoes in collaboration with Cuple.
Luckily I managed to get a small interview with the designers which will follow shortly in my Meet The Designer series
