I discovered the Label Farnis whilst in Madrid. The bags are unusual to me in that they really seem to be like little sculptures. As perfect on a sideboard as they would be on an arm. The company was started in 2012, intrigued, I managed to get hold of Marta Farnis to explain more....
Marta as I understand it Carlos designs whilst you are the one that sources and puts the bags together . It's like the relationship between an architect and the constructor?
I suppose you could say we work together as a very close-knit team! Carlos being a creative person since childhood and as an architect,he expresses his view of the world through the bags. The particular shape of each FARNIS are what identify him as a designer. They also have proved the collection as pioneering and avant-guarde.
He designs each bag applying the rules of architecture. The same ones he uses as an architect. His aim is always the same: to revolutionize the classic shape of luxury bags.
As for me, I feel very connected to fashion and design, since quite early on. Consequently I have always enjoyed colours and textures.
So Carlos designs each bag and I choose the materials, colours and textures, always following Carlos’ inspiration of course.
Nonetheless, even though each of us has a different function in FARNIS, we work side by side throughout the creative process, in order to produce bags that move emotionally and are of excellent quality. Each one has a part of us.
I am fascinated by the inside of the bags. Why Ottoman?
We always knew that if the bags were to be different and impact from outside, even more so from inside, being part of their utility. We want our clients to feel thrilled each time they open their FARNIS. With this in mind we choose materials of great quality, one of them being the Italian ottoman, which bewitched usfrom the start.
Not only is the qualityof this material superb, but also it had nostalgic connotations, being the fabric of my childhood dresses. The colour had to be neon rose. Rosy colours are my favourite, and neon rose transmits a vibrant, nonconformist and feminine character, which FARNIS aims to project.
Is the label just about women's handbags or do you envisage introducing men at some point in the future ?
Yes there will be FARNIS´ for men! Carlos has plenty of designs for both men and women and not only bags! Shoes and glasses also are part of our future plans.
We will progressively widen our selection of productsaccording to the demands and needs of our clients.
Do you bring out a certain number of designs per year? I notice that you have a different colours of the same design.
Carlos is constantly creating and has an ampleselection of designs which will be released in due time.
Our principal object is to deliver iconic designs. Each bag or new design is here to stay, we aren´t fast fashion. Each bag has a story, a raison d´être and many months of work. We want to communicate that FARNIS is:QUEEN, WILMA, GRAN MATILDA, DIAVOLO, SOPHIA, BRAVISSIMO, MATILDA y GRETA. The eight models of our collection.
Going back to your question, effectively every year we reinvent each of the models, with a different colour andmaterial. We also will be incorporating every so often new bags ascribed to FARNIS´ philosophy. But not twice a year, we will not follow fashion world prescriptions. We´ll do it gradually, leaving breathingspace for each bag.
Plans for the future ? Your own boutique or flagship store ?
