I have been a fan of lingerie designer Carmen Gonzales forever - I remember fondly filling her precious little boxes with divine pieces from her Cohiba collection for sale in Miss LaLa's Boudoir Boutiques owned by the divine Fine Rees. That was a long time ago when I was her sales representative. Gonzales is a perfectionist and her little boxes were as precious as the pieces that were within them - this sort of attention to overall detail had never seen before certainly not in the then quite frumpy lingerie market.
Carmen your annual collections are usually theme-based around woman such as Miss Slow Lee and Anita b.This year though your forthcoming collection which launches next week At GCMC (Gran Canaria Moda Cálida ) is named Edie & Nico;are you going to be introducing menswear to the collection?
No, no, never! The Nico from Edie & Nico is a woman! But you'll have to wait until the show to find out more!
The collections have recently introduced more daywear clothing pieces, or at least pieces that can be used for outerwear - can we expect more in this direction next week from the Edie & Nico collection?
Yes of course! The trend in fashion at the moment is erasing thefrontiers between outer and inner wear; or at least making one complementary to the other stylistically. In this collection there won't be so many dresses because it's a smaller collection and I will be dedicating it to the bralette.
Your pieces are exquisitely made using the finest luxurymaterials, and in the last couple of years you have been utilising a more a structured bust line. When you started it was more of a soft cup for everyday use. Do you see yourself adding daily wear pieces in the future?
My range has become bigger, but I remain faithful to the triangle bra and the soft bra as these are the ones that I personally use on a daily basis. What you see on my catwalks is a story told through lingerie, and of course I present pieces which are more elaborateand spectacular. My sales look book has many daily pieces.
Where would you recommend someone to go for dinner in Gran Canaria?
El Zarcillo, in Tafira
Certainly I can hardly wait to see her collection next week !!!
