Copenhagen Fashion Week was regaled by the stunning My Generation Spring Summer 2017 menswear collection of by Ellen Pedersen, inspired by street fashion photography of Jamel Shabazz, in 1980’s New York, and centred around light, loose pieces, with a distinctly relaxed vibe.
Harking back to Shabazz’s images – which show young boys hanging out in the streets of New York in their shorts –enjoying a laid back and fun lifestyle, the ss17 collection makes reference to Pedersen’s signature modern sportswear meets high-quality, attention-to-detail tailoring, and combines a chilled out 80’s hiphop feel, with a more elegant aesthetic, with short shorts and oversized outerwear.
The colour palette is made up of mainly dark blues, greys, black, white, red and pastel purple, and art – such as the linear composition of Mondrian – is made reference to in the pattern cutting and composition.
Straight lines are seen throughout the collection on pieces such as the quilted vest. Blending different fabrics to create texture, Pedersen uses ribbed cotton, fake fur and napa leather.
This collection suits the youthful but refined gentleman who appreciates the finer tastes of the mod, looking for beautiful clothes with a touch of a dark side
