Jeff Garner has been on my radar for quite a while - his dedication to every part of the making of his collection is incredible. His worldwide knowledge of dying methods and techniques is second to none And not only is he gorgeous and talented, but he also has a passion for sustainable fashion.
His Spring Summer 2017 collection ‘Nevermore’, which he created under his label Prophetik, looks back to his Native American ancestry and its traditional folklore, and exploring the symbolism of the raven.
“The raven shows us how to go into the dark of our inner self and bring the light of our true self to healing and creation, cultivating renewal, recycling, and reflection,” he said.
As such the collection is dark and more sombre than his previous spring/summer work, with black duck feathers (naturally shed of course – this is eco fashion!) adorning some of the pieces. But its not all dark, the collection also has an ethereal, whimsical feel and alternative materials such as salmon sustainable leather, hemp silk and hand woven Dupioni also feature.
Prophetik’s recently launched intimates collection started of the show at London Fashion Week, followed by a selection of ready-to-wear pieces, into formal cocktail wear and then finally concluding with the stunning statement making ball gowns, designed with a black wedding in mind.
Matching shoes to such a collection is only possible with a label such as Lucy Choi her beautiful boutique in Cavendish village has a mesmerising range from heels to flats with different finishes and colours, so that endless combinations are possible.
Jeff how beautiful were the ball gowns this season, is this more the direction the label is going in evening and party wear - I know you have a lot of A Lister clients that wear your pieces for red carpet events ?
The direction of the label has always been lifestyle brand but formal wear is currently a strong suit of Prophetik.
Men's underwear I hadn't seen this before is this the start of a new range for you !
I am doing hemp boxers for the men for wholesale accounts…they need sustainable undergarments as well.
With regards to the materials I know that you were dying them naturally and locally in Tennessee does this still apply to this collection ?
Yes I hand dyed the collection as I always do.
I know you travel a lot so where would you recommend a friend visiting in London to go for lunch ?
I would recommend Chiltern Firehouse for lunch.
