" We need excess, eccentricity against the cliché, banality, uniformity”,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Antonio Marras.
Dedicated to legendary-romantic Armenian director, musician, painter and lover of fairy tales and mythical traditions Sergej Paradžanov, the latest men's and woman's AW2017 collection at La Triennale exhibition space from Antonio Marras is all about expression through ornamentation, and reflections on memory and time through clothes.
Paradžanov was a connoisseur and a collector of ornaments and traces of folklore from the Caucasus. Influenced by this, Marras uses layered fabrics, lace, embroidery, seams, superimpositions and encrustations. Material used are also dramatic, ornamental and texturized, with metallic taffetas, crêpes, macramé lace, chiffon and laminated leather working together with organza, damasks,
Jacquards,brocades and linen.
Prints and colours are eclectic and flashy, with bronze, gold, grey green and dark chocolate colours brightened with splashes of white, turquoise, crimson and bright jade.
Exploding plate and cup prints, chintz flowers, geometric patterns, roses, foliage and polka-dots adorn the pieces, heightening the unconventional feel.
I love bold combinations so the collection’s active leaning towards eccentricity and away from the banal and the uniform, was perfection. The long seductive dresses and severe decorated blouses, or the boxy trousers and double-breasted jackets with see through openings were all divine.
My senses exploded .... this for me is what fashion is really about!
