Joe Casely Hayford has been working in the fashion industry for an impressive 30 years and the AW17 collection is a celebration of this three-decade-long career, drawing inspiration from the label’s JCH archives from the 80’s, 90’s and early 00’s. Having featured men recently on social media, I wanted to revist their Womens collection for AW17.
As such, the collection bears witness to the style characteristics that make Casely’s unique design aesthetic so distinctive. And while the collection does serve as a retrospective, it also, with his son Charlie, looks to the future, and though a couple of pieces of womenswear were dribbled in for SS17 it's only now we see the launch of the first ever Casely-Hayford women’s ready-to-wear collection and shown at London Fashion Week Men.
Both men's and women's collections explore the idea of the outsider and the insider, with new proportions and volumes giving an innovative and contemporary feel to the pieces. The beloved knitted cardigan featured in some of my favourite looks ,coat - like, layered or just slung over shoulders.
There were wide legged trousers with a 3 D dimemsional fabric stripe, pretty blinding really.
Then there were the coats , oversized but within a backbone of tailoring and those fantastic textured circles. The optical ilusion was perfect .
