I always love to see designers making their debut and London Fashion Week Men is such a great place to explode onto the scene as Wan Hung did with his fabulous live presentation. The intrigue of receiving the invitation ticket in the guise of a good fortune win... helped as well!!
Wan Hung is originally from Hainan Island in China, and his AW17 collection explores the ideas of nostalgia and memories of traditional Hainanese New Year, with long suit robe silhouettes creating an authentic Chinese feel, merged seamlessly with Western tailoring.
Wan Hung’s prints also exude a Hainanese look, with the Chinese symbol for good luck appearing throughout the collection.
Famous for his clean-cut tailoring and sharp details, Wan builds on this reputation, using complex traditional Chinese knotting techniques alongside more innovative, modern details such as glitter fabrics, denim, rubberised PVC and high-tech wadding.
The colour palette also pays homage to the island, with reds and silvers complemented with ocean blues.
