By naming his Autumn Winter 2017 collection Revolution, Berlin designer Marcel Ostertag set the expectations high at his third runway collection at New York Fashion Week, and I for one, was looking forward to seeing what revolutionary looks he had created. After all this is a designer that has been accused of being over the top. The show had Emma Watson’s UN Women’s “He For She” speech playing over the music.
The collection encourages its wearer to raise a fist to uniforms and fight for individuality in fashion and expression, showing your personality with courage and confidence. Gender diversity is an on going concern with Ostertag and timely in the current climate.
Celebrating his 10-year anniversary in the fashion industry, Ostertag went all out with this collection embellishing the pieces with feminine ruffles and intricate embroidery. Although the silhouettes are simple the way Ostertag mixes materials give the collection depth and unity.
Many of the pieces were adorned with a graphic botanical print, complemented by a range of colours from sexy shimmering metallic and soft dark grays, to more neutral green and tan tones with pops of red on belts.
Reinforcing the message that the bomber jacket is here to stay as a fashion statement, I adored the cool oversized bomber-style jacket, the glorious printed trousers with ruffles down the sides and the chunky sweaters paired with tight fitted miniskirts.
