One of my friends the owner of Espacio A in Santa Cruz has exclusivity with Ganni in the capital of Santa Cruz ,and this weekend we were talking about how wearable the label is. How you can mix the label up over seasons and it still looks fresh! Talking about the label got me thinking about Ganni's FW17 and how dire the beginning of the year seemed. Not that things have changed much but there seems to be a feeling running through the industry that change can be possible and fashion can play its part in that change.
Ditte Reffstrup, the talented Creative Director of the brand, Ganni decided to contribute to making the word a better place, with an Autumn/Winter 2017 collection called Love Society.
Talking about the collection, Reffstrup said: “I’m committed to the ideal of a loving, mindful society that encourages dialogue and urges us all to come together and look after each other. With love, there is hope.”
The collection is full of messages of love, while at the same time, reflecting some of the issues currently affecting our daily lives such as climate change, conflict, and politics. The colour palette reflects the earthy, real world feel of the collection, with natural browns, greens, lilac, navy, black and deep orange.
And although the palette is sombre, love stands out throughout the collection, with heart logos adorning bags, dresses, sweaters and T-shirts, the wordsLove Society printed inside hearts on sweaters and a fab black dress embellished with sequinned hearts creeping across the material like a vine. Fabrics are high-quality and luxurious, with pieces made using sumptuoustailored wool, fine silk organza, and heavy satin, often layered for an even more elegant look.
The easy-to-wear collection is effortlessly contemporary, with pop culture references in the Little House on the Prairie-stylehigh-necked dresses and the hot-dog and lollipop motifs.
