There have been many times throughout fashion history that designers are influenced by film and cinema, but it was the modern fairy-tale, “Wings of Desire” that inspired Arthur Arbesser’s Autumn/Winter 2017/18 collection.
Finding a careful balance between the good and the bad side of fairytales, the collection teeters between poetic romance and purity on the one side, and rigorous uniformity on the other.
This idea is further enhanced using a bold choice of colours and the incorporation of certain film elements such as vivid wallpaper and curtain patterns and a fab circus inspired aesthetic in the graphics and prints.
Arbesser takes an innovative approach to fabrics, giving more natural fibres a futuristic feel with the infusion of metallic, technical or transparent fabrics, and the knitwear is embellished with the addition of geometric jacquard inserts.
Swarovski crystals are used throughout and in experimental ways such as in the lines of pinstripes and to add a luminous geometric touch to silhouettes.
