Its nearly time for his next show, but lets take a stroll down memory lane and return to the season in place FW17. Philipp Plein impressed the crowds with an Autumn Winter 2017 collection inspired by the true spirit of this iconic city – #pleinlovesny.
I think Plein got it right, because at the end of the day, we all love New York, so it’s easy to connect with and understand. Having stayed in the uber cool Brooklyn neighbourhood last time I was in the city, I loved the whole concept of the collection acting as a personal love letter to all these diverse little melting pots from the Bronx and Chelsea to Queens and the Upper East Side.
Emphasising the neighbourhood theme of the collection, many of the pieces are adorned with the slogan ‘Neighborhood Kings’. The line is blurred between what is menswear and what is womenswear in this collection that mixes gender, race and style. Female models wear oversized t-shirts and hoodies, while the men strut the runway wearing fitted jackets and dresses.
In the same way, streetwear looks are merged with couture pieces, with high-fashion, embroidered evening dresses worn with bomber jackets and sneakers next to high-heels. AMAZING SPACE AGE puffas for both men and women, perfect for those freezing temperatures that hit NEW YORK.
With the freedom to express individuality encouraged, and the protective urban wear going strong throughout the looks, this debut collection told a memorable story of the streets of New York.
