Were the swathes of tulle a memory of the troubled clouds in Van Goghs stormy sky paintings, or was I reading to much into it ?
But then, Anja Gockel’s latest summer collection is inspired by not the paintings, but the vibrant personality and spirit of the Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh. Fascinated by the artists burning passion, (despite being labelled a mad man throughout his career and life) Anja pays tribute to all those unafraid of showing of their individuality, with a theatrical collection that stands out against the arbitrariness of the masses.
Showing her collection at Berlin Fashion Week last week, Anja started the show with a model being freed of a birdcage on her head , and carried on with models in statement outfits emblazoned with Van Gogh's quotations. What followed was a series of expressive looks in vibrant colours and using creative material and style combinations.
Dazzling sequins were complemented by simple linen, flowing silkand voluminous tulle. Everything about the collection screamed passion. Although I felt that in the colour palet there was something reminiscent of Van Gogh emotional journey.
