I discovered this Czech based designer, on a sunny day last year in Soho where he was showcasing his SS18 collection, having already shown on the catwalk at #MBKFD . Jiri Kalfar originally trained to be a ballet dancer, and there is a dreamlike and theatrical playfullnes infused in his pieces .. not forgetting of course that glamour element. His collections include both men and womenswear.
Many people say ‘eco-friendly’ and ‘luxury’ just don’t work together, however, Jiri Kalfar’s SS18 collection is proof they do – and beautifully!
Dedicated to the honey bee, the collection raises awareness of the importance of saving the bees and looking after our planet, by using sustainable and eco-friendly methods to produce luxurious garments. The results are spectacularly glamorous. Reflecting the gold and black colours of the bee, as well as the flowers they pollinate, the collection uses one-off materials, vintage, velvet, sequins, lace and silk, to create elegant pieces perfect for day and night. Semi-couture alongside commercial wear both question the gender norm with inventive shapes.
