What do you do when you make your way to your seat for a catwalk show by one of fashions ICONIC designers and the music starts playing .. and it happens to be your favourite track ever .. WILD IS THE WIND by Nina Simone .. on top of it has been magnificently arranged by Gerrit Kerremans, so that the fact that it plays throughout the show doesn’t jar or get boring !!!
Well for me it sets the scene for a fabulous expectation. And spectacular it was .. there were collaborations from FakbyFak for sunglasses and Novesta for sneakers as well as some incredible wader boots; labels which I buy and wear. I really loved the clogs by Rene van de Bergh although the models did totter on them a bit, high wedged heels can be tricky for boys when they’re not used to them.
Then there was the clothing .. well there was so much going on at Walter Van Beirendonck .. it was hard to focus .. the socks the birds and donkeys on his jackets, overcoats, and macs.
Then there was the skeleton theme that ran through the collection. I really did love the deconstructed jackets with their neon skeleton bones holding the pieces together. Colours were bright or so they seemed but it was all down to that clever neon binding so that even the black and white pieces seemed humorous or at least not morose.
With no information available or back stage access, and Wild is the Wind playing in my beeing. I ran my own story.
Its about the human cycle with the skeleton for ever present .. until we become dust again and maybe return maybe as something else another animal perhaps .. a bird ? I HOPE SO ! Otherwise just listening to Wild is the Wind and musing on life’s condition is not a bad option. Thankyou Walter Van Beirendonck.
