I am afraid I am not a great fan of Disney , guess really couldn’t buy into that whole prince kissing dream. Though I do really like Desiguals FW18 Mickey’s 90th birthday tribute ... with it’s slightly vintage feel ..
But I digress and we’re talking SS19 and RTW! New York and the start of a month long of fashion weeks
In New York both Disney and escapism entwined and exchanged - I completely flipped at The Blonds ‘Disney Villians’ .. now this side of Disney I can really take ..
The Blonds created looks inspired by Disney villains — Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen, the Queen of Hearts and Ursula. Flowing capes body suits and corsets incrusted and plumed, probably not really very RTW; but I guess if your friends include the likes of Paris Hilton that just happened to have walked for the label in the role of Cruella de Vil in a fitted sequined asymmetrical hemmed dress, complete with dog as accessory then reality is subjective .
Talking about fairytale the return of designers Laura and Kate Mulleavy's, with their label Rodarte to New York was all about fantasy too .. first of all with the venue, the Marble Cemetery in the East Village, secondly the rain, then the pink tulle dresses, purple ruffles and tumbling roses hanging from ringlet curls. They did so remind me of some pagan offering to a powerful underworld god .
Raf Simmons for Calvin Klein went to film .. and with a catwalk , set against a beachfront backdrop, it was JAWS Spielberg’s 1975 block buster . There were officially licensed JAWS graphics from Universal, as well as plenty of wetsuits some worn with the tops folded over to reveal all-over prints underneath.
There was preppy too and I fell in love with those shark bitten pleated skirts , they’re so going to make it to my wardrobe .. together with those Jaw wife beater tees. I reckon there is still time to pick up some vintage ones to customise if you can’t get the real thing for next summer .
Tom Ford in my eyes can do no wrong .. and now that I’ve discovered the beauty of a pencil skirt and how it fits all shapes and sizes .. this collection was pure heaven. Tom Ford´s pencil skirts ( my new passion) were magic, either ruched tight at the thigh or flyaway at the hem, or even with just a bit of lingerie lace showing, Fabulous capes and a tux completed a tight and incredibly female and powerful collection. As no other but he can deliver !
