It feels a lot like anniversary season in the fashion industry these days, with Fashion Month heralding in some important milestone moments. In between watching models stomp the SS19 catwalks in London, Paris, Milan and New York, we’ve also celebrated 50 years of unparalleled American style at Ralph Lauren’s golden anniversaryshow; we watched in awe as Mary Katrantzou continued to push the boundaries, cementing her status as a veritable fashion visionary, with her 10th anniversary collection in London, and we applauded Italian knitwear label Les Copains for reaching 60 years of success in the business in Milan Fashion Week.
And then there was the gloriously ethereal ‘The Last Rose of Summer’ 25-year anniversary show by vintage inspired bridal and eveningwear Marco & Maria in Puerto de la Cruz last week.
Inspired by the romantically melancholic poem by Thomas Moore, the show was a magical, whimsical fairy-tale, perfectly matching its setting nestled amongst the lush tropical foliage of the Jardín Botánico.
Each stunning piece in the otherworldly collection was delicate, feminine and indulgent, perfectly reflecting designers Marco Marrero and María Díaz’s innate ability to tell stories and ignite emotions with their gowns. Dripping with refined Haute Couture embellishments, the dresses were poetry in motion with beautiful floral and butterfly embroidery, layer upon layer of dramatic tulle, elegantly translucent lace, feathers, crystals and pearls; all accentuated by divine headpieces by Martina Dorta.
Lending their expert hand to the show’s organisation, was leading international modelling and production agency MasQmoda Canarias, who not only cast the gorgeous ‘roses’ for the show, but also helped to transform the gardens into a uniquely surrealand dreamlike platform for one of the most beautiful fashion shows of the year so far – but we still have the Marco & Maria show at Paris Fashion Week to look forward to, so let’s see what Marco & Maria bring to the French capital this coming week.
