With London Fashion Week Men’s set to take place in the UK this Saturday January 5 to Monday January 7, the spotlight is on menswear trends for the upcoming SS2019 season. So ahead of the big event, let’s explore at some of the trends to watch out for, for dapper gents and style forward menfolk looking to stay up to date in the fashion stakes this year.
As we’ve been seeing in recent years, gender fluidity is still an integral concept in the menswear arena and will be big in SS2019, with inclusiveness at the centre of the trend. Non-binary brand Art School will open London Fashion Week Men’s this year with a new collection and Loverboy will close – another brand which identifies with gender neutral looks and clothing for the LGBTQ community.
We’ll also be looking at a return to elegant tailoring for SS19, with some of the classic brands such as such as Barbour, Belstaff, E. Tautz and Oliver Spencer showing of their sartorial styles at London Fashion Week Men’s. Expect to see a number of beautiful suits, double-breasted blazers and oversized boxy tailoring, some avant-garde cuts and the ‘casualisation’ of the traditional suit.
In terms of materials and colours, denim will still be popular for SS19, with dad jeans still a thing, but the skinny jean is being replaced by wider legs, faded washes and lots of fancy add-ons and pockets. One to watch in the denim department is Liam Hodges who will be returning to London Fashion Week Men’s this weekend following his previous revolutionised lightweight wool denim jeans with zig zag stitching down the front and a drawstring waistband.
Leather will also be making a comeback this Spring Summer, with whites, off-whites and creams set to be the failsafe colours of the season.
