Fashion Month has ended, but the trends will be influencing style choices for months to come – including what to consider when choosing your perfect handbag for Autumn Winter 2019/2020.
Luckily, for those who can’t decide on just one, or like me that two might be the only way forward for finding things. Trends for Fashion month saw designers present multiple bags at the same time. In Paris, Givenchy, Miu Miu and Off-White proved that two bags are better than one, while at NYFW, Ulla Johnson, Kate Spade New York and Rebecca Minkoff also doubled-up the number of handbags carried at once. In Milan, Max Mara and Fendi also followed the trend.
Belt bags and fanny packs proved their staying power, with Fendi featuring a quilted piece in deep red and Dior offering up a clinched waist belt-bag in metallic navy. Also jumping on the bandwagon was Versace, Givenchy, Hermès and Maryam Nassir Zadeh, who went for a compact snakeskin number.
Chanel and Emilio Pucci also went for reduced sized bags, while Roberto Cavalli offered a handsfree alternative to the envelope bag. Other popular handsfree options included chain strap crossbody bags and lanyard-style purses worn around the neck. Trunk clutches and cubic top-handle bags were the looks du jour for those who don’t mind hand held bag options.
I’m not a fan of mini bags trend, but for AW19 micro pieces seem to be getting even smaller. Jacquemus set new records, with a piece so minute it was almost unusable, except i loved it and its going to be my talisman for sure. Carolina Herrera, Alexander McQueen, Givenchy and Lanvin featured statement over-the-body outfit enhancing pieces. Paco Rabanne, Brandon Maxwell, Ferragamo and Chloé all delivered handheld options that were diminutive in size, but not in style.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the giant carryall totes trend are also back in popular demand, with oversized bags making a comeback at Proenza Schouler, Fendi, Jil Sander and Giambattista Valli. Christian Dior went for oversized red tartan, while Off-White opted for a quilted puffer style piece.
