Its official, swimwear season is upon us. And there are some interesting trends emerging for this season, to guide us in the beach or poolside style stakes this summer.
Surrounded by the ocean the Canary Islands is home to many talented swimwear designers this week I take the designers of Gran Canaria moda cálida collective and see how they have worked the trends
First up let’s take a look at colours and prints. While I personally have long been on the hunt for the perfect, non-see-through white swimming costume, this season its all about yellows and metallics. Both bold colours for ladies who like to make a statement.
I think that Chaxi Canarias ‘Naturaleza Isleña’ collection is glamorous choice and mixes prints with sensuous sheen.
And although not yellow but just a really hot metallic pink with a flattering thigh high cut I really like the ‘Revel’ pink costume by Agüita swimwear.
As for prints, this season we’re seeing women embrace their ferocity in bold animal print, including leopard, zebra, tiger and snake in an array of different colours. This timeless trend can be worn as an eye-catching one-piece, or for those less confident with going all the way, wear an animal print top, with a monochrome bottom, or visa versa. Nuria González is a fantastic print designer , this summer she paid homage to ‘Pinito del oro’, a renown Spanish trapeze artist born in the canaries. Her bikinis and swimsuits feature a range of animal prints that you can mix and match.
Wallpaper florals and rainbow stripes are also be on-trend looks this summer, in keeping with the return to retro vibes which are infiltrating the scene and I love como ‘ La Trucho al trucho collection called ‘Holiday Motel ‘ is infused with retro Miami vibes
When it comes to cuts and fits, this season designers are getting even more creative with the cutout concept. There are two designers that stand out Pedro Palmas with a collection inspired by NASA and Aurelia Gil and her Capsula A5 .
While not great for your tan lines, strategic cutouts add a sexy touch to both costumes and bikinis. High waisted bottoms are another hot look and brilliant for elongating the legs
And in keeping with industry evolutions, watch out for a rise in sustainable swimwear this summer.
