It's that time of year again and I am obsessed. I'm obsessed with slinky smooth hairless legs and I'm obsessed with those swim trunk-clad men that seem to have the perfect smooth skin without one ingrown hair or unsightly bump!
Croissier's summer sun '15 show finally did it for me as hunk after hunk appeared on the catwalk looking frizz free and even. Discreetly putting on my glasses for a much nearer inspection, I got a bit worried by my complete lack of control. It did feel pervy to be so obsessed about hair. But, there is a reason. I have tried the LOT - from all types of waxing, creaming AND shaving, but I need to wait a day for it to properly die down, and then a COUPLE of days later it all starts all over again and I am tweezing away as soon as anything pops out.
I have thought about laser, although it comes in at about £600 a leg, and that's just one session. It's just an impossible budget for a fashionista at the moment.
I have been told by a couple of concerned waxing specialists that men do have different hair growth to us ladies. Their hair is coarser and it's the same as when they shave their face - the skin is smooth.
Of course I have done some more investigating of my own and there could definitely be something to it. Professional swimmers that get rid of everything in order to be more efficient in the water and aerodynamically supreme, shave!
First of all they lather up with menthol or a sensitive skin-based shaving cream so it cools down the skin, then using a double blade shaver, they go over the area two or three times! Swimmers will then apply and rub alcohol onto their skin, which apparently refreshes open pores and avoids getting the dreaded ingrown hairs. Moisturizing cream or baby oil is then applied to the skin to keep it from getting dry.
But, big BUT, swimmers only do it before a race and I know alcohol will dry out and irritate your skin after long periods of use and maybe even cause even more unsightly pimples.
So, I have found this little baby on a recent trip to Paris. It's microwaveable wax by Nair that works on short hairs and contains argan oil for smoothness. For this month's Twitter prize we're giving away the kit, SO GET RETWEETING ON @mscastrorides @Naircare ULTIMATE Roll-On.
