Its the fifth year, that the municipality of San Mateo in Gran Canaria has organised a 'Couture Catwalk'. A village more renown for its culinary delights it's quite amazing that they pulled in designers, such as Juan Carlos Armas and Disenos Amarca, more used to strutting the Catwalks of Madrid then a local town hall. But therein lies the excitement and mystique of fashion... and the hard work and vision of one man and his team, Alessi.
Speaking to Alessi post show he explained the fashion tie. Many years ago this agricultural hamlet was home to a dynamic team of seamstresses and pattern cutters . Unfortunately through time the skill has lost much of its importance. The stageing of the show is in order to find the sponsorship that will contribute towards the teaching and machinery costs to recover the tradition.
This year on the catwalk, that was organised by Nuria Gomez of Canarias Dmoda, there were presentations by two new emerging designers Aaron Hernandez, Aday Batista fruit of these initiatives.
